About the Event
One of Rio’s top Carnaval artists, Marcio Dellawegah is a phenomenal choreographer and Brazilian dance instructor specialising in Samba and Afro Brazilian dance. Marcio will bring his wealth of expertise and deep passion for sharing his art to these workshops with technique work, feeling and connection and dynamic flair. Marcio’s expertise in Samba and Afro Brazilian dance stems from a lifetime of immersion in his art and culture. He spent 19 years with the renowned Salgueiro Samba school where he was a dancer in the Maculele (Afro) ala then Passista for 11 years. Marcio has also been a principal dance artist with the Escola Carioca de Danças Negras (Rio’s School of Afrocentric dance) throughout his life.
Known as the “Rei do giro”, Marcio is currently the Artistic Director of Passistas for the 2023 Carnaval champion Samba school, Imperatriz Leopoldinense. His many accolades include winning the Brazil Samba World Champions in 2018, being crowned the King of Passistas do Salgueiro in 2022 and King of Carnaval in Switzerland 2024.
